The Greater Wichita region is home to a world-class workforce supported by educational institutions and training programs, creating a solid foundation for students and ongoing training options for adults. The Greater Wichita Partnership works alongside employers, human resource professionals, and recruiters to accelerate talent attraction and retention while supporting talent development.

Outstanding Area Colleges and Universities

The region features first-class educational experiences from 18 public, private, and technical colleges and universities. More than 100,000 students are prospective workers for area employers.

With the area's high concentration of manufacturing businesses, Wichita has correspondingly strong technical training resources. 

Wichita State University is a public research university governed by the Kansas Board of Regents, offering over 60 undergraduate degree programs in more than 200 areas of study in six colleges. WSU is also home to the Innovation Campus, giving participating companies direct access to the talent pipeline.

The University of Kansas School of Medicine educates future doctors while improving the health of Kansans through research and innovation. The school provides hands-on, clinical training to medical students and sponsors 13 fully accredited residency programs.

Friends University is a private non-denominational Christian university located on 50 acres just west of downtown Wichita with a total undergraduate enrollment of more than 1,300 students.

Newman University is a private Catholic liberal arts university founded by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ to empower graduates to transform society.

WSU Tech offers over 100 college degree and certificate programs in the areas of aviation, healthcare, manufacturing, general education, business, and design. WSU Tech operates multiple campuses across the region and is dedicated to changing lives by training people for high-wage, high-demand jobs.

Butler Community College is a public institution based in El Dorado with a total enrollment of nearly 9,000 students. The college offers programs in IT, agriculture, business, fine arts, nursing, and education, both online and at seven Kansas locations.

Cowley College is a premier community college based in Arkansas City with locations in nearby Wellington, Winfield, Mulvane, and downtown Wichita. The college also offers online and on-site courses at nine area high schools.

The Kansas Health Science Center is in the process of developing a proposed Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine in downtown Wichita.
