Located just 10 miles north of Wichita, Harvey County features a diverse economy that encompasses four major industry sectors: manufacturing, health care services and social assistance, construction and educational services.

Manufacturing accounts for 24% of the county’s employment and is home to companies including Agco, and Excel Industries. The county is home to many industrial and business parks providing opportunities for businesses to grow.
Beginning as a railroad hub for the Texas cattle trade, industry has continued to thrive in Harvey County. With two Class I railroads, Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) and Union Pacific, along with other local short line services, rail transportation serves a vital role in the county’s economy and one of the largest employers. Located in Newton, the Kansas Logistics Park is one of only a few BNSF Certified Sites in the Midwest.
Harvey County is a prime location for road transportation as well. Located along I-135, which provides direct access to both coasts along with Canada and Mexico through I-35 and I-70.
Overall, Harvey County has an affordable cost of living compared to the rest of the nation. The composite Cost-of-Living index for Harvey County is 87, while the national average is 100.
