Workforce Development & Economic Environment: D.C.-Based Defense and Cybersecurity Company Moves Headquarters to Wichita

By Emily Barnwell

Quality of life and an economic environment primed for workforce development. It’s what helped seal the deal for Knowmadics, a trusted AI-driven defense and cybersecurity company, to make Wichita its home base.

The company announced that it will relocate its headquarters from Herndon, Virginia, to the Air Capital of the World during the 2025 Paris Air Show. The move, expected to be finalized by December, comes less than three years after Knowmadics launched its Cyber Center of Excellence (CCoE) at Groover Labs in Wichita.

“This center has already served as a hub for tackling critical challenges in electronic warfare, cyber solutions, and space resilience,” said Claire Ostrum, co-founder and president of Knowmadics. “Establishing our headquarters here is a natural evolution, one that cements our commitment to local innovation and positions us at the forefront of emerging defense programs.”

Thriving Ecosystem & Community Support

From the very beginning, Wichita’s collaborative environment and growing cybersecurity ecosystem have played a central role in Knowmadics’ growth.

“Wichita offers the right mix of talent, infrastructure and strategic partnerships,” shared Ostrum. “The region provides access to highly skilled personnel from McConnell Air Force Base, the strength of Wichita State University’s cyber and aerospace programs and the ability to bring innovation to new pursuits like the Golden Dome initiative to support national security.”

The company also credits the Partnership, lawmakers, other community members and business leaders with helping accelerate its footprint in Kansas.

“The Greater Wichita Partnership has been instrumental to Knowmadics’ success in Kansas from day one. When we launched the CCoE in 2022, they guided us through real estate options, introduced us to Groover Labs and connected us with the incredible cyber talent at McConnell Air Force Base. They also opened doors to local universities, Wichita State University’s Applied Research, and industry leaders like Novacoast, helping us quickly integrate into Wichita’s thriving innovation ecosystem.”

Looking Ahead

For Knowmadics, the move represents more than a change of address.

“We see an opportunity for growth and innovation,” said Ostrum. “This is a world-class hub for technical innovation and collaboration, where public-private partnerships drive real-world impact.”
